ܒܢܝ ܗܠܝܢ ܟܬܒ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܬܚܛܘܢ ܘܐܢ ܐܢܫ ܢܚܛܐ ܐܝܬ ܠܢ ܦܪܩܠܛܐ ܠܘܬ ܐܒܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܙܕܝܩܐ
bny hlyn kthb 'n' lkwn dl' thkhTwn w'n 'nsh nkhT' 'yth ln prqlT' lwth 'b' yshwe mshykh' zdyq'
My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous.

ܗܘܝܘ ܓܝܪ ܚܘܣܝܐ ܕܥܠ ܐܦܝ ܚܛܗܝܢ ܘܠܘ ܚܠܦܝܢ ܕܝܠܢ ܒܠܚܘܕ ܐܠܐ ܐܦ ܚܠܦ ܟܠܗ ܥܠܡܐ
hwyw gyr khwsy' del 'py khThyn wlw khlpyn dyln blkhwd 'l' 'p khlp klh elm'
And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.

ܘܒܗܕܐ ܡܪܓܫܝܢܢ ܕܝܕܥܢܝܗܝ ܐܢ ܢܛܪܝܢܢ ܦܘܩܕܢܘܗܝ
wbhd' mrgshynn dydenyhy 'n nTrynn pwqdnwhy
This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments.

ܗܘ ܓܝܪ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܝܕܥܬܗ ܘܦܘܩܕܢܘܗܝ ܠܐ ܢܛܪ ܕܓܠܐ ܗܘ ܘܫܪܪܐ ܠܝܬ ܒܗ
hw gyr d'mr dydethh wpwqdnwhy l' nTr dgl' hw wshrr' lyth bh
One who says, “I know him,” and doesn’t keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth isn’t in him.

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܢܛܪ ܡܠܬܗ ܒܗܢܐ ܡܫܠܡ ܫܪܝܪܐܝܬ ܚܘܒܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܒܗܕܐ ܓܝܪ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܒܗ ܚܢܢ
hw dyn dnTr mlthh bhn' mshlm shryr'yth khwbh d'lh' bhd' gyr ydeynn dbh khnn
But whoever keeps his word, God’s love has most certainly been perfected in him. This is how we know that we are in him:

ܗܘ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܒܗ ܐܝܬܝ ܘܠܐ ܠܗ ܕܐܝܟ ܗܠܟܬܗ ܕܝܠܗ ܢܗܠܟ

he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked.

ܚܒܝܒܝ ܠܘ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܚܕܬܐ ܟܬܒ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܐܠܐ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܥܬܝܩܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܢ ܒܪܫܝܬ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܥܬܝܩܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܡܠܬܐ ܗܝ ܕܫܡܥܬܘܢ
khbyby lw pwqdn' khdth' kthb 'n' lkwn 'l' pwqdn' ethyq' hw d'yth hw' lkwn mn brshyth pwqdn' dyn ethyq' 'ythwhy mlth' hy dshmethwn
Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.

ܬܘܒ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܚܕܬܐ ܟܬܒ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܗܘ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܫܪܝܪܐ ܒܗ ܘܒܟܘܢ ܕܚܫܘܟܐ ܥܒܪ ܠܗ ܘܢܘܗܪܐ ܫܪܝܪܐ ܫܪܝ ܡܬܚܙܐ
thwb pwqdn' khdth' kthb 'n' lkwn hw d'ythwhy shryr' bh wbkwn dkhshwk' ebr lh wnwhr' shryr' shry mthkhz'
Again, I write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you; because the darkness is passing away, and the true light already shines.

ܡܢ ܕܐܡܪ ܗܟܝܠ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܒܢܘܗܪܐ ܘܣܢܐ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܒܚܫܘܟܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܗܫܐ
mn d'mr hkyl d'ythwhy bnwhr' wsn' l'khwhy bkhshwk' 'ythwhy edm' lhsh'
He who says he is in the light and hates his brother, is in the darkness even until now.

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܡܚܒ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܒܢܘܗܪܐ ܡܟܬܪ ܘܟܫܠܐ ܠܝܬ ܒܗ
hw dyn dmkhb l'khwhy bnwhr' mkthr wkshl' lyth bh
He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him.

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܣܢܐ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܒܚܫܘܟܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܘܒܚܫܘܟܐ ܡܗܠܟ ܘܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܠܐܝܟܐ ܐܙܠ ܡܛܠ ܕܚܫܘܟܐ ܣܡܝ ܐܢܝܢ ܥܝܢܘܗܝ
hw dyn dsn' l'khwhy bkhshwk' 'ythwhy wbkhshwk' mhlk wl' yde l'yk' 'zl mTl dkhshwk' smy 'nyn eynwhy
But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

ܟܬܒ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܒܢܝܐ ܕܐܫܬܒܩܘ ܠܟܘܢ ܚܛܗܝܟܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܫܡܗ
kthb 'n' lkwn bny' d'shthbqw lkwn khThykwn mTl shmh
I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

ܟܬܒ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܐܒܗܐ ܕܝܕܥܬܘܢܝܗܝ ܠܗܘ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܒܪܫܝܬ ܟܬܒ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܥܠܝܡܐ ܕܙܟܝܬܘܢܝܗܝ ܠܒܝܫܐ ܟܬܒܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܛܠܝܐ ܕܝܕܥܬܘܢ ܠܐܒܐ
kthb 'n' lkwn 'bh' dydethwnyhy lhw d'ythwhy hw' mn brshyth kthb 'n' lkwn elym' dzkythwnyhy lbysh' kthbth lkwn Tly' dydethwn l'b'
I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.
I write to you, little children, because you know the Father.

ܟܬܒܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܐܒܗܐ ܕܝܕܥܬܘܢ ܠܗܘ ܕܡܢ ܒܪܫܝܬ ܟܬܒܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܥܠܝܡܐ ܕܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܡܠܬܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܫܪܝܐ ܒܟܘܢ ܘܙܟܝܬܘܢܝܗܝ ܠܒܝܫܐ
kthbth lkwn 'bh' dydethwn lhw dmn brshyth kthbth lkwn elym' dkhylthn' 'nthwn wmlthh d'lh' shry' bkwn wzkythwnyhy lbysh'
I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.
I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

ܠܐ ܬܪܚܡܘܢ ܠܥܠܡܐ ܘܠܐ ܠܡܕܡ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܗ ܡܢ ܓܝܪ ܕܪܚܡ ܠܥܠܡܐ ܚܘܒܗ ܕܐܒܐ ܠܝܬ ܒܗ
l' thrkhmwn lelm' wl' lmdm d'yth bh mn gyr drkhm lelm' khwbh d'b' lyth bh
Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.

ܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܓܝܪ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܗ ܒܥܠܡܐ ܪܓܬܐ ܗܘ ܕܦܓܪܐ ܘܪܓܬܐ ܕܥܝܢܐ ܘܫܘܒܗܪܐ ܕܥܠܡܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܕܠܐ ܗܘܝ ܡܢ ܐܒܐ ܐܠܐ ܡܢܗ ܐܢܝܢ ܡܢ ܥܠܡܐ
kl mdm gyr d'yth bh belm' rgth' hw dpgr' wrgth' deyn' wshwbhr' delm' hlyn dl' hwy mn 'b' 'l' mnh 'nyn mn elm'
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s.

ܘܥܒܪ ܥܠܡܐ ܗܘ ܘܪܓܬܗ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܥܒܕ ܨܒܝܢܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܡܩܘܐ ܠܥܠܡ

The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever.

ܒܢܝ ܙܒܢܐ ܗܘ ܐܚܪܝܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܡܕܡ ܕܫܡܥܬܘܢ ܕܐܬܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܕܓܠܐ ܘܗܫܐ ܗܘܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܕܓܠܐ ܘܡܢ ܗܕܐ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܙܒܢܐ ܗܘ ܐܚܪܝܐ
bny zbn' hw 'khry' w'yk mdm dshmethwn d'th' mshykh' dgl' whsh' hww lhwn sgy'' mshykh' dgl' wmn hd' ydeynn dzbn' hw 'khry'
Little children, these are the end times, and as you heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen. By this we know that it is the final hour.

ܡܢܢ ܢܦܩܘ ܐܠܐ ܠܘ ܡܢܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܠܘ ܓܝܪ ܡܢܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܘܬܢ ܡܟܬܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܠܐ ܢܦܩܘ ܡܢܢ ܕܬܬܝܕܥ ܕܠܘ ܡܢܢ ܗܘܘ

They went out from us, but they didn’t belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us.

ܘܐܢܬܘܢ ܡܫܝܚܘܬܐ ܐܝܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܢ ܩܕܝܫܐ ܘܦܪܫܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܗܘ ܠܟܠ ܐܢܫ

You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.

ܠܐ ܟܬܒܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܗ ܠܫܪܪܐ ܐܠܐ ܕܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܗ ܘܕܟܠܗ ܕܓܠܘܬܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܬ ܡܢܗ ܡܢ ܫܪܪܐ

I have not written to you because you don’t know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.

ܡܢܘ ܕܓܠܐ ܐܠܐ ܐܢ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܟܦܪ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܗܢܐ ܗܘ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܕܓܠܐ ܗܘ ܕܟܦܪ ܒܐܒܐ ܟܦܪ ܐܦ ܒܒܪܐ

Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.

ܘܗܘ ܕܟܦܪ ܒܒܪܐ ܐܦܠܐ ܒܐܒܐ ܡܗܝܡܢ ܡܢ ܕܡܘܕܐ ܒܒܪܐ ܐܦ ܒܐܒܐ ܡܘܕܐ

Whoever denies the Son, the same doesn’t have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.

ܘܐܢܬܘܢ ܡܕܡ ܕܫܡܥܬܘܢ ܡܢ ܩܕܝܡ ܢܩܘܐ ܠܘܬܟܘܢ ܐܢ ܓܝܪ ܡܩܘܐ ܠܘܬܟܘܢ ܡܕܡ ܕܫܡܥܬܘܢ ܡܢ ܩܕܝܡ ܐܦ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܡܩܘܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܒܐܒܐ ܘܒܒܪܐ
w'nthwn mdm dshmethwn mn qdym nqw' lwthkwn 'n gyr mqw' lwthkwn mdm dshmethwn mn qdym 'p 'nthwn mqwyn 'nthwn b'b' wbbr'
Therefore, as for you, let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son, and in the Father.

ܘܗܢܘ ܫܘܘܕܝܐ ܕܐܫܬܘܕܝ ܠܢ ܚܝܐ ܕܠܥܠܡ

This is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life.

These things I have written to you concerning those who would lead you astray.

ܘܐܦ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܢ ܬܩܘܐ ܠܘܬܟܘܢ ܡܫܝܚܘܬܐ ܕܩܒܠܬܘܢ ܡܢܗ ܠܐ ܣܢܝܩܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܐܢܫ ܢܠܦܟܘܢ ܐܠܐ ܐܝܟ ܡܫܝܚܘܬܐ ܕܐܝܬܝܗ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܗܝ ܡܠܦܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܥܠ ܟܠܡܕܡ ܘܫܪܝܪܐ ܗܝ ܘܠܝܬ ܒܗ ܕܓܠܘܬܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܕܐܠܦܟܘܢ ܩܘܘ ܒܗ

As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.

Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

ܐܢ ܝܕܥܬܘܢ ܕܙܕܝܩ ܗܘ ܕܥܘ ܕܐܦ ܟܠ ܕܥܒܕ ܙܕܝܩܘܬܐ ܡܢܗ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ

If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.
